ThemonoclonalantibodyAY1E6recognizestheanti-inflammatorymediatorClaracellprotein(CC16).Claracellproteinorurinaryprotein1isahomodimericproteinof16kDandissecretedpredominantlybyClaracellsinterminalbronchiolesandfrompubertyoninthemaleurogenitaltract.CC16isformedbytwochains,eachwithamolecularweightof7.9kD.CC16occursinveryhighconcentrationsinrespiratorytractderivedfluidssuchassputumorbronchoalveolarlavagefluid.CC16occursalsoinurogenitalsecretions,suchasamnioticfluid,urineandsemen.Theproteindifussespassivelyintoserum.CC16behaveslikeananti-cytokinebydownregulatingtheproductionofIFN-gamma,IL-1andTNF-alphabystimulatedleukocytes.Besidesthis,CC16reducestheantiviralactivityandtheaugmentationofphagocytosisinducedbyIFN-gamma.
