Keratinsarecytoplasmicintermediatefilamentproteinsexpressedbyepithelialcells.Keratin7(K7)isexpressedinawiderangeofepithelialstructuresinhumans.K7occursinthecolumnarandglandularepitheliumofthelung,cervix,breast,inbileducts,collectingductsinthekidneyandinmesothelium,butisabsentingastrointestinalepithelium,hepatocytes,proximalanddistaltubulesofthekidneyandmyoepithelium.TheantibodyOVTL12/30isanexcellenttoolinthedifferentialdiagnosisofmalignantcellsandtodetermineprimarytumorlocalization.Itstainsa54kDproteinbandofcytoskeletalproteinsfromcelllinesinoneandtwodimensionalimmunoblots.
