TheantibodyreactsspecificlywithHumanIL-1RII.TheIL-1systemincludestwoagoNISTs(IL-1alphaandIL-1beta),convertingenzymes,antagonists,tworeceptors(IL-1RIandIL-1RII)andtheIL-1receptoraccessoryprotein.TheIL-1RIIispartoftheantagonisticIL-1mechanism.ItisalsoknownasdecoyreceptorandisanonsignalingmoleculewhichfunctionsbycapturingIL-1andpreventingitfrominteractingwiththesignallingIL-1RI.ThedecoyIL-1RIIcanafterbindingtoIL-1alsorecruittheIL-1receptoraccessoryproteinandthusinhibitbycoreceptorcompetition.FurtherasolubleformofIL-1RIIexistswhichisshed,aprocessinwhichmatrixmetalloproteaseshavebeenfoundtoplayarole,byvariouscellsincludingmonocytes,polymorphonuclearcells,Bcellsandfibroblasts.
