Thecaspase-8antibodyrecognizescaspase-8,memberofthecysteine-asparticacidprotease(caspase)family.Sequentialactivationofcaspasesplaysacentralroleintheexecution-phaseofcellapoptosis.Caspasesexistasinactiveproenzymescomposedofaprodomain,alargeproteasesubunit,andasmallproteasesubunit.Activationofcaspasesrequiresproteolyticprocessingatconservedinternalasparticresiduestogenerateaheterodimericenzymeconsistingofthelargeandsmallsubunits.ThisproteinisinvolvedintheprogrammedcelldeathinducedbyFasandvariousapoptoticstimuli.TheN-terminalFADD-likedeatheffectordomainofthisproteinsuggeststhatitmayinteractwithFas-interactingproteinFADD.ThisproteinwasdetectedintheinsolublefractionoftheaffectedbrainregionfromHuntingtondiseasepatientsbutnotinthosefromnormalcontrols,whichimplicatedtheroleinneurodegenerativediseases.Manyalternativelysplicedtranscriptvariantsencodingdifferentisoformshavebeendescribed,althoughnotallvariantshavehadtheirfull-lengthsequencesdetermined.Thecaspase-8polyclonalantibodyrecognizesendogenouscaspase-8.
