ThispolyclonalantibodyrecognizestheinnermembraneproteinSbmAofGram-negativebacteria.TheSbmAproteinisahomodimericsecondarytransporterprotein,thatisinvolvedinthetransportofmicrocinsB17andJ25,glycopeptideantibioticbleomycin,proline-richantimicrobialpeptidesofprokaryoticandeukaryoticorigin,antisensepeptidephosphodiamidatemorpholinooligomersandpeptidenucleicacids(PNA)intotheE.colicytoplasm.ThisproteinisfoundinalargenumberofGram-negativeandalsoGram-positivemicroorganisms,includingplantandanimalpathogens.ThemonomericSbmAproteincontains406aminoacids(about50kDa)andhas8transmembraneregions.Thehomodimericcomplexpresentinthemembranecloselyresemblesthemembrane-spanningregionoftheATP-bindingcassettetransporterfamily.PeptidetransportmediatedbySmbAisdrivenbyaelectRochemicalgrADIent.SbmA-mediatedinternalizationofpeptidesubstratessuggestthatthetransportofanunknownsubstrate(s)representsthefunctionofthisprotein.
