Thepolyclonalantibodyrecognizesmouseilealfattyacidbindingprotein(IL-FABPorI-LBP)ofbothnaturalandrecombinantorigin.TheIL-FABPproteinisderivedfromthemouseFABP6gene.FABPsaresmallintracellularproteins(~13-14kDa)withahighdegreeoftissuespecificitythatbindlongchainfattyacids.Theyareabundantlypresentinvariouscelltypesandplayanimportantroleintheintracellularutilizationoffattyacids,transportandmetabolism.ThereareatleastninedistincttypesofFABP,eachshowingaspecificpatternoftissueexpression.Duetoitssmallsize,FABPleaksrapidlyoutofischemicallydamagednecroticcellsleADIngtoariseinserumlevels.Ischemicallydamagedtissuesarecharacterizedhistologicallybyabsence(orlowpresence)ofFABPfacilitatingrecognitionofsuchareas.IL-FABPislocalizedintheintestine,ovary,adrenalsandstomach.
