ThemonoclonalantibodyKat5-18recognizesT-cellimmunoglobulinandmucindomaincontainingmolecule(TIMD-4,alsocalledTIM-4).TIMD-4isatypeItransmembraneproteinbelongingtotheimmunoglobulinsuperfamily,containingoneIg-likeV-type(immunoglobulin-like)domain.TIMD-4isexpressedinMac1+cellsinspleen,lymphnodesandfetalliver.TIMD-4bindsapoptoticcellsbyrecognizingphosphatidylserineviaitsimmunoglobulindomain.TIMD-4infibroblastsenhancedtheirABIlitytoengulfapoptoticcells.TIMD-4isinvolvedinregulatingT-cellproliferationandlymphotoxinsignaling.TIMD-4andTIMD-1arephosphatidylserinereceptorsfortheengulfmentofapoptoticcells,andarealsoinvolvedinintracellularsignalinginwhichexosomesareinvolved.ThemonoclonalantibodyKat5-18blockstheengulfmentofapoptoticcellsbythymicmacrophages.
