ThemonoclonalantibodyER-MP23specificallyreactswiththemacrophagegalactose-specificlectin(MGL),a38kDasinglechainsurfaceglycoprotein.MGLisfoundonmurinematuremacrophagesintheconnectivetissueneighboringepitheliaofe.g.salivaryglands,capsuleoflymphnodes,thymusandvariousotherorgans.MGLispresentonthesurfaceofconnectivetissuemacrophagesandtheirprecursorcellsinbonemarrow.Also,MGLisexpressedinmacrophagecelllines(e.g.J774-1.6,RAW309Cr.1andWR19M.1).ExpressionlevelsofMGLareincreasedinmaturemacrophages.TheantigeniscoexpressedwiththeantigenrecognizedbymonoclonalantibodyBM8(HM1066).
ThemonoclonalantibodyER-MP23hasbeenraisedafterimmunizationofratswithmousemacrophagecelllines.BlockingstudiesdemonstratedthatthemonoclonalantibodyER-MP23isabletoblockmouseMGL.
