SR-Abindsbacterialpathogensandisconsideredtoplayaroleintheinnateimmuneresponse.TLR2andTLR4agoNISTssynergisticallyup-regulateSR-AinRAW264.7throughp38pathway.SR-AknockoutmicearemoresusceptIBLetoendotoxicshockthanwildtypemice,whichsuggestsaroleintheclearanceofbacterialendotoxinfromthecirculation.UsingthymicmacrophagesoftheknockoutmiceaswellasantibodytreatmentconfirmedthatSR-Aisresponsibleforhalfofthephagocyticactivityrequiredforapoptoticthymocyteingestion.NexttoitsroleininnateimmunitythereisevidencethatSR-Aalsocontributestoacquiredimmuneresponses.
