Junctionaladhesionmolecule-C(JAM-C)alsoknownasJAM-2isa45kDcelladhesionmolecule(CAM).JAM-Cisatransmembraneproteinwhichisamemberoftheimmunoglobulinsuperfamilyfoundatintercellularjunctionsofendothelialcells.JAM-CbelongstogetherwithJAM-A(JAMorJAM-1)andJAM-B(VE-JAMorJAM-3)toafamilyofadhesionproteinswithaV-C2immunoglobulindomainorganization.JAMplaysanimportantroleintightjunctionswhereitisinvolvedincell-to-celladhesionthroughhomophilicinteraction.ItcodistributeswithothertightjunctioncomponentsasZO-1,7H6antigen,cingulinandoccludin.JAM-Cispotentiallyinvolvedinthejunctionalsealingofthevascularendothelium,inparticularofhighendothelialvenules(HEV).InadultmurinetissueJAM-Cexpressionisreportedtoberestrictedtohighendothelialvenulesoflymphoidorgans,lymphoendothelialcellsandendothelialcellsinkidney.MonoclonalantibodyCRAM-19H36alsoreactswithhumanJAM-C.Inhumans,JAM-Cexpressionisnotrestrictedtoendothelialcells,butisalsoexpressedonhumanlymphocytes.
