RADIoprotective105(RP105,CD180)isatype1transmembraneproteinof105kDawithextracellularleucine-richrepeats(LLRs)andashortcytoplasmictail.RP105,assignedasCD180,issimilartoDrosophilaTollintheextracellularLLRs.Radioprotective105(RP105,CD180)expressionislargelyrestrictedtoimmunecellsincludingCD19+Bcellsandmacrophages.HistologicalstudiesshowedthatRP105isexpressedmainlyonmatureBcellsinmantlezones.Antibody-mediated(RP/14)cross-linkingofRP105inducesresistanceagainstirradiation-inducedapoptosis,B-cellproliferation,andup-regulationofacostimulatorymoleculeB7.2,revealingRP105asapotentregulatorofB-cellactivation.RP105(CD180)hasanimportantroleinB-cellactivationbyLPS.ItisimportanttonotethatRP105associateswithMD1,whichisinthiscontextimportantforRP105withrespecttoB-cellsurfaceexpressionandLPSrecognitionandsignalling.MD-1seemstoberequisiteforefficientexpressionofRP105.
