Themonoclonalantibody6D4recognizeshumanC-X-Cmotifchemokine10(IP-10),aproteinof98aminoacids.IP-10,alsoknownasCXCL10,functionsasligandfortheCXCR3receptor.IP-10belongstotheα-chemokine(C-X-C)family,whichcanbedividedintwosubfamilies:(1)potentchemoattractantsforneutrophils,likeIL-8and(2)potentchemoattractantsforlymphocytes,liketheIFNɣinducIBLeprotein(IP)-10.IP-10isproducedbyawidevarietyofcelltypesrangingfromneutrophils,dendriticcellsandmonocytestohepatocytes,endothelialcellsandkeratinocytes.ThecytokineisreportedtobeinvolvedinascalaofinflammatorypathologiessuchasHIV,encephalitis,cutaneousTcelllymphoma,chronichepatitis,psoriasisandacuteanterioruveitis.VariousobservationsstronglysuggestarolefortheC-X-CchemokinesIL-8andIP-10intheregulationofangiogenicactivityincancerandinidiopathicpulmonaryfibrosis.FurThermoreIP-10isassociatedwithacuterejectionprocessesestimatedbythepredictivepropertiesofurinaryIP-10expressionfortheshort-andlong-termgraftfunctionafterkidneytransplantation.
