Themonoclonalantibody66E2recognizeshumanheart-typefattyacid-bindingprotein(H-FABP)ofbothnaturalandrecombinantorigin.TheH-FABPproteinisderivedfromthehumanFABP3gene.FABPsaresmallintracellularproteins(~13-14kDa)withahighdegreeoftissuespecificitythatbindlongchainfattyacids.Theyareabundantlypresentinvariouscelltypesandplayanimportantroleintheintracellularutilizationoffattyacids,transportandmetabolism.ThereareatleastninedistincttypesofFABP,eachshowingaspecificpatternoftissueexpression.Duetoitssmallsize,FABPleaksrapidlyoutofischemicallydamagednecroticcellsleADIngtoariseinserumlevels.Ischemicallydamagedtissuesarecharacterizedhistologicallybyabsence(orlowpresence)ofFABPfacilitatingrecognitionofsuchareas.H-FABPislocalizedintheheart,skeletalandsmoothmuscle,mammaryepithelialcells,aorta,distaltubulesofthekidney,lung,brain,placenta,andovary.ItisalsousefulasMarkerforbraindamage.FurThermore,thisantibodyisusefulforthepurificationofH-FABP.
