Themonoclonalantibody15-2recognizesthemannosereceptor(MR),alsoknownasCD206,amemberofthevertebrateC-typelectinfamily.Themannosereceptor,isapatternrecognitionreceptorthatisinvolvedinbothinnateandadaptiveimmunity.The175kDasingle-passtypeItransmembranereceptorconsistsof5domains:anamino-terminalcysteine-richregion,afibronectintypeIIrepeat,aseriesofeighttandemlectin-likecarbohydraterecognitiondomains(responsIBLefortherecognitionofmannoseandfucose),atransmembranedomain,andanintracellularcarboxy-terminaltail.
Thestructureissharedbythefamilyofmultilectinmannosereceptors:thephospholipaseA2-receptor,DEC205andthenovelC-typelectinreceptor(mannosereceptorX).TheMRbindshigh-mannosestructureson-awiderangeofgrampositiveandgramnegativebacteria,yeasts,parasitesandmycobacteria.TheMRhasalsobeenshowntobindandinternalizetissue-typeplasminogenactivator.
